Lauren Rees is a registered nurse with a BSc Nursing degree in General Nursing and Midwifery from UCT. She further specialised with a Community Health Nursing Science diploma from the Cape Technikon and a Paediatric Nursing Science diploma from the B.G. Alexander College of Nursing at Johannesburg Hospital. In 2001, she completed her MSc Nursing at the University of the Witwatersrand with a dissertation entitled, ‘Family-Centred Care in Paediatric and Neonatal Nursing: A Survey of Knowledge and Attitudes of Paediatric and Neonatal Qualified Nurses and Nurse Educators in Gauteng’. Lauren has written for publication and her on-going topic of particular interest is strengthening nursing practice through effective teaching and learning strategies, especially related to health assessment training. Before joining CNPDI Lauren taught clinical skills to undergraduate medical students at the University of Cape Town (UCT), and taught enrolled nurse and nursing assistants doing bridging courses at a rural hospital in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Prior to that, Lauren spent many years mostly in paediatric clinical settings, including PICU, ranging from primary through to tertiary health care sectors.
