Johnathan was inspired to enter nursing because of his passion for his country and the wellbeing of his nation’s people. His drive to improve the quality of patient care by supporting nurses to achieve the highest standards of clinical practice has seen him obtain an honours degree in nursing from the University of the Western Cape, a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Critical Care Child Nursing from the University of Cape Town, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Nursing Management from the University of Stellenbosch.
Working as a Paediatric Intensive Care Registered Nurse Specialist he became deeply interested in Paediatric Cardio-thoracic nursing. He embarked on a journey to complete a post-graduate specialist certificate in Paediatric Cardio-thoracic Nursing Science (for Registered Nurses) afforded him completion with cum laude.
For his academic commitment and diligence this competent clinician received the Top Academic Achievers Award in the cluster of Paediatric Critical Care; Neonatal Intensive Care; Maternal Nursing, and Cardio-Thoracic medical and surgical nursing interventions.
Johnathan has worked extensively as a Paediatric Intensive Care Registered Nurse and was mentor to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital PICU before joining the CNPDI Critical Care Child Nursing team in 2017. Johnathan received the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital’s Nursing Excellence Award in the category best PICU Registered Nurse in 2014.
A CNPDI graduate himself, Johnathan is proud to be using his knowledge and skills to educate and empower others to make a difference to children’s nursing.
